Frequently asked questions

Help with your account, research, writing and document analysis. Choose a question below or search for a keyword.

Account, plans and billing

Open your account, choose a plan and follow the checkout steps. If checkout fails or access is not activated, contact support with the email address used for the purchase. Do not send payment-card details.

Mimir Mentor offers free access with usage limits and paid options. Document analyses and subscriptions may have different purchase options. Check the current pricing page and the offer shown in your account before buying.

Look for the invitation or referral section in your account. Share the code shown there; an eligible recipient can enter it at checkout. The account and checkout show the current discount and eligibility conditions.

Choose the higher plan in your account and review the checkout summary. The German help page describes a prorated credit for the current plan and immediate access to the upgrade, with the original billing date retained. Check the amount displayed before confirming.

Open your account and look for the invoice-history option in the additional account settings. This opens the payment provider’s portal, where you can view and download the available invoices.

Select the smaller plan in your account. A downgrade takes effect after the current billing period, so you can continue using your existing plan until that period ends. Review the effective date shown in your account.

Open the subscription-management option in your account. Complete the cancellation in the payment provider’s portal; simply leaving the page is not enough. Keep the confirmation email. Your paid access normally remains available until the end of the paid period.

Your subscription ends on the date shown in your account. Until then, you retain the access included in your paid period. Check that the portal confirms cancellation and that no further renewal is scheduled.

Contact support promptly with your account email and invoice reference. The German help page states that automatic renewals are generally not refunded under the standard policy. Your individual circumstances and any applicable statutory rights still need to be considered; see the Terms and Conditions.

Check that you are signed in with the email address used at checkout. Also check whether you purchased a subscription or a single document analysis, as they do not necessarily activate the same access. If the purchase is still missing, contact support.

Use the same email address and sign-in method as when you registered. If you registered through a provider such as Google or Microsoft, use that provider again. For a password-based account, use the password-reset option. Contact support if the problem continues.

For an email-and-password account, use the password-reset option on the sign-in page. For an account created through an external sign-in provider, manage the password with that provider.

Use the project-management option in the workspace to export a .mimir project file where that option is available. Keep a local backup and your original document. Storage can differ between editor projects and document-analysis reports; do not assume that every workspace item is backed up automatically.

Storage depends on the function you use. Your account can retain document-analysis reports, while editor projects also offer export options. Read the Privacy Policy for the purposes, recipients and retention periods that apply to your data.

The current German help page distinguishes the original uploaded document, which is retained for up to 30 days, from analysis reports kept in the account. Consult the Privacy Policy and contact support for a question about a specific file or a deletion request.

Consult the Privacy Policy and the terms applicable to the service you use for processing and model-training conditions. If you need a binding clarification before uploading confidential material, contact support and identify the feature and type of data concerned.

Follow the rules for your university, course and assessment. If a declaration is required, describe the tool, relevant version or date, functions used and parts of the work affected. Ask your supervisor if the permitted scope is unclear.

Mimir Mentor is a web application that is updated centrally. Look for the version identifier in the application, including the lower-right area of the workspace. Record the date and displayed version if your university asks you to document the tool.

Look for the account-deletion option in the additional account settings. The current German help page requires an active Premium plan to be ended before an account-deletion request can proceed. Keep the deletion confirmation and contact support if you cannot access the option.

Topics and research proposals

Browse research-topic examples and narrow them by discipline and type of work. Treat a suggestion as a starting point, then check the research literature, available methods and your supervisor’s requirements.

Yes. The topic generator accepts your interests, exclusions and study details to suggest directions. Refine the scope yourself and confirm that the question can be answered within your time and resources.

Mimir can develop a topic and provide a proposal or research guide as a starting point, including possible sources and a timetable. Check each reference, the feasibility of the method and the requirements of your institution before using it.

Literature and references

Yes. Use AI literature search to discover publications and organise references. Read the original sources to decide whether they actually support your argument.

In the writing assistant, select the statement and use the source-search task. Examine the suggested publication and relevant passage yourself. A related title or abstract does not establish that a source supports the exact claim.

The German help page states that a source-language filter is not available. Results reflect relevant scientific literature, much of which is published in English. Changing your search terms can influence the results, but it does not guarantee a particular language.

Open the literature area and use its import option. The current help lists bibliographic formats such as BibTeX, XML and EndNote. A PDF or Word document is not the same as a structured reference export. Add individual sources manually or use title and DOI lookup when needed.

Use the export/download option in the literature area and choose an available format, such as BibTeX, XML, EndNote or text. Check the exported file before using it in another tool. Keep a separate backup of your sources and project.

Writing and correction

Mimir provides suggestions for clarity, grammar and academic phrasing. Review the output against your intended argument and disciplinary conventions. A polished sentence is not evidence that its underlying claim is correct.

Yes. Use the writing assistant to propose a clearer formulation, then compare it with your original meaning. Preserve citations and technical terms. Rewording someone else’s idea does not remove the need to cite it.

The writing assistant offers tasks such as rephrasing, shortening, summarising and translating passages. Choose a task that is permitted for your assessment and review the result before adding it to your work.

Mimir combines writing, literature and document-review workflows in an academic workspace. A general chatbot is organised around prompts and conversations. Neither approach removes your responsibility to check facts, sources and the permitted use of AI.

No. Mimir is intended to support your own work through correction, phrasing, research and review. Do not use generated passages to replace the independent work required by your institution. You remain responsible for the argument, originality and references.

Keep the final document layout in your word processor, such as Word. Mimir’s editor focuses on working with passages and offers limited formatting. Check headings, page numbers, tables and references again in the final document.

Use document analysis or the correction area in the editor. Select a passage where appropriate, start the correction and review the marked suggestions one by one. Accept changes that help and reject changes that alter your meaning, a quotation or a specialised term.

The tools can support essays, research papers, undergraduate dissertations, master’s dissertations and other academic texts. Check your institution’s rules and select the appropriate workflow and language.

Yes. The same principles apply to a short essay: keep your own argument, verify references and review suggestions. The permitted use of AI depends on the assessment, not simply on the length of the document.

Paste a passage into the editor or use the available .docx import option in the writing or correction workspace. For a full-document report, use the document-analysis workflow and the file formats shown there. Keep your original file.

Mimir brings language suggestions and academic-review tasks into its workspace. The exact overlap depends on the features and settings of both products. Compare suggestions on your own text rather than assuming that either tool catches every problem.

It can flag formal inconsistencies in citations and referencing style. This is not a substitute for checking the original source, the accuracy of a quotation or whether a claim is supported.

The current German help page describes live correction in sections of 5,000 characters. Use the continuation command at the end of the section to proceed. This processing step is not the same as a full document’s upload limit.

Check the rules of your university, course and specific assessment before using it, including for language correction. Permission is not universal. Keep a record of the assistance you use and declare it when required.

Plagiarism, AI indicators and reports

Mimir compares passages with available scientific and web sources and can flag similarities and missing-reference concerns. Review each passage and its source in context. A match is not automatically plagiarism, and a report without a warning does not certify originality.

The document score brings together several aspects of the analysis, including the type and seriousness of findings. It is not a university grade or simply a similarity percentage. Use it to prioritise checks, not as a guarantee that the work will pass an assessment.

The value concerns the matched passage and the source identified for it, not necessarily the whole document. A correctly quoted passage can be highly similar. A loosely worded paraphrase can still need a citation even with little literal overlap.

There is no universal permitted percentage. Review the source, attribution and context of each passage. Your institution’s assessment rules remain applicable even when a report’s overall figure is low.

There is no fixed number that decides the issue by itself. The origin of the wording or idea, how it is attributed and the relevant academic rules matter.

Document analysis includes AI-text indicators. These are separate from matching passages to sources. An AI indicator does not prove that AI was used and is not a plagiarism verdict; false positives and false negatives are possible.

It signals language patterns that the analysis associates with AI-generated or AI-edited text, sometimes relative to other passages in the document. A human-written passage can be flagged. Check the explanation and retain drafts; do not rewrite merely to lower a detector score.

Basic analysis provides an initial overview of potential findings. Premium analysis offers more detailed passage-level review and related recommendations. Check the current access and purchase options for the analysis you need.

The current German help page states that document-analysis reports are viewed interactively in the application and are not offered as report downloads. Open the analysis workspace to review the passages and linked recommendations.

The current help page says analysis reports remain in the account until the account is deleted, including after a one-off analysis or the end of a subscription. It separately limits retention of the original uploaded document to 30 days, which can affect a later rescan or upgrade.

A detector cannot reliably establish the full writing process from a score alone. Neither Mimir nor another tool can guarantee that edited text will never be flagged. Follow your institution’s rules and document your actual use rather than trying to evade detection.

Yes, reusing your own assessed or published work without the required disclosure can be an academic-integrity issue. Using a checking tool does not authorise that reuse. Ask your institution how earlier work should be cited and disclosed.

The current German help page states that uploaded work is not added to a plagiarism database. That is different from the processing and storage needed to provide the service. Read the Privacy Policy and ask support about sensitive documents before uploading them.

You can start with the free overview available in the document-analysis workflow. Detailed analysis has separate paid access conditions. Check the offer shown for your document rather than assuming the entire report is free.

Check that you are in the account used for the purchase and have opened the correct document and analysis type. If the result remains unavailable, contact support with your account email and purchase reference. Do not upload payment-card information.
